A New Look For The NFL in 2008
This year marks the implementation of the redesigned National Football League (NFL) logo unveiled last August 2007. It will be the first logo makeover implemented by the NFL since 1980. Looking back, the decision to alter the infamous “NFL Shield” is to give a more modern and stylish look. The new logo will make its debut in April 2008 during the NFL draft.
The New Changes
- The number of stars was reduced from 25 to only 8 to represent the 8 AFC and NFC divisions.
- The football located at the center of the logo is adjusted to look a lot like the football on top of Vince Lombardi championship trophy.
- The colors were updated to emulate more the American flag.
- The typography was also redesign to look more modern.
I personally like the new logo. It has a more modern feel and is more scalable for different applications. But I feel that the previous type treatment was more successful since it follow the outside outline better and didn’t create any awkward spacing between the letter forms and the outline of the shield. I may have play with the serifs a bit more. What you think of it?
